Academy Attendance is proud to release an Australian first. Students use their fingerprint to log onto the attendance system. This is fast, safe and secure. No swapping of cards, no more lost card excuses!

Utilizing biometrics for personal identification is becoming convenient and considerably more accurate than current methods like PINs or cards. This is because biometrics link the event to a particular individual (a PIN or card may be used by someone other than the authorized user), is convenient (nothing to carry or remember), accurate (it provides positive identification), can provide an audit trail, is becoming socially acceptable, and can be cost-effective. Unlike a PIN or card, it cannot be forgotten, misplaced, lost, or stolen. Biometrics ensure that a person is actually the sanctioned user, and not in possession of a stolen card or someone who found, hacked or cracked a PIN.

Privacy concerns

The efficiency of the Academy Attendance System relies upon accurate identification of students. The standard system is supplied with Photo ID/Swipe card for secure identification of students, but many schools prefer to use biometric identification, which provides yet more secure identification than Swipe Cards. Fast, safe, and secure, biometric identification prevents the swapping and loss of ID Cards.

How does Academy Biometrics work? Using scanners, the software scans the ridges, furrows and minute points of the finger tip to create individual templates that identify each person. The template is then sorted in a database. At a later time, when a person places their finger tip on the scanner, the software again scans the finger tip and creates a new template. The software then compares the newly created template with those stored in the database. When a match is made, the person is identified.

AT NO TIME IS A FINGERPRINT IMAGE EVER STORED.  NO FINGERPRINTS CAN BE RECREATED FROM THE TEMPLATE.

Privacy Concerns – Academy Biometrics will NOT store actual fingerprint images. It is important to note that at no time will the software store actual finger print images. It will store only templates that are a numeric representation (algorithm) of the minutiae of individual finger tips. Although a template is used for matching, no actual fingerprint can be reconstructed from a template.
